Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce, consists of buying and selling of product or services over the internet, but it is also used to transfer and share information within organizations through Intranets to improve decision-making. E-commerce can be business to business (B2B) and business to customer (B2C). One of the most popular activities on the Web is shopping. Nowadays we can just shop on the web at any time either day or night. Can you imagine how convenient is that??
The History & Evolution of e-commerce!!
Originally, e-commerce meant the electronic facilitation of commercial transactions using technology like EDI or Electronic Date Interchange or Electronic Funds Transfer or EFT. It was introduced in the late 1970s, these electronic methods allowed two companies to perform electronic transactions with one another. From the 1990s onwards, e-commerce would additionally include enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), data mining and data warehousing. E-commerce came to more precisely term which called “Web Commerce” which allowed consumer to purchase or sell the goods or services over the World Wide Web. It is usually has a secure connections, and with electronic payment services such as use the credit card to make the payment.

1984~ EDI, electronic data interchange has replaced by ASC X12. It can deal with a large number of transaction at once.
1992~ This is the year that gave consumers the first time buying things via computer. It is because in this year CompuServe offers online retail products to its customers.
1994~ The internet began to become popular around the world. Netscape arrived in this year. It provided users to surf the internet and safe online transaction technology.
1995~ Amazon.com & Ebay.com were launched in this year.
1998~ The number of internet users were increasing in this year. It is because Digital Subscriber Line has provided faster line and internet service to subscribers across California.
2000~ The US government has moratorium on the taxation of internet sales until 2005.
