E-Government

e-Government (short for electronic government, also known as e-gov, digital government, online government or transformational government) is used to refer to the use of information and communication technology to provide and improve government services, transactions and interactions with citizens, businesses, and other overcome the physical bounds of traditional paper and physical based systems.


E-government is one of the seven flagship applications introduced in MSC. Under the e-government flagship, seven main projects were identified to be the core of the e-government applications.

The e-government projects are:

1. Project Monitoring System (PMS)

2. Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS)

3. Generic Office Environment (GOE)

4. Electronic Procurement (EP)

5. Electronic Services (E-Services)

6. Electronic Labor Exchange (ELX)

7. E-Syariah



CITIZEN ADOPTION STRATEGIES:
Citizens expect and demand governmental services with a high degree of quality, quantity, and availability in a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week, and year-round fashion to adopt e-government. The government should increase the awareness of citizens in existing of their services provided in e-Government. A higher level of customer satisfaction will increase the rate of e-Government adoption because the citizens will be comfortable of the privacy and confidentiality of their information. Futhermore, the quality of the services should be competitive with the other developed country in terms of speed, problem serving approach, and the convenience use of the website. This is important as it provides and encourage long-term users to use the website frequently and cut-off paper work when the payment process can be made through online.

Thus, the success of e-government implementation in Malaysia is an important factor to determine Malaysia’s progress towards achieving vision 2020 and to build global bridges between Malaysia and other intelligent cities for mutual enrichment.
